When two people talk about mathematics problem solving, they may not be talking about the same thing. The rhetoric of problem solving has been so pervasive in the mathematics education of the 1980s and 1990s that creative speakers and writers can put a twist on whatever topic or activity they have in mind to call it problem solving! Every exercise of problem solving research has gone through some agony of defining mathematics problem solving. Yet, words sometimes fail. Most people resort to a few examples and a few nonexamples. Reitman (29) defined a problem as when you have been given the description of something but do not yet have anything that satisfies that description. Reitman's discussion described a problem solver as a person perceiving and accepting a goal without an immediate means of reaching the goal. Henderson and Pingry (11) wrote that to be problem solving there must be a goal, a blocking of that goal for the individual, and acceptance of that goal by the individual. What is a problem for one student may not be a problem for another -- either because there is no blocking or no acceptance of the goal. Schoenfeld (33) also pointed out that defining what is a problem is always relative to the individual.

Only abstracts submitted using the online application would be considered for publication. Abstracts have to be written in English. The proposed abstract should contain the specific objectives, experimental methods and statistical analyses to be used, together with a synthesis of the results and conclusions. The title, authors and the abstract must not exceed 2250 characters (including spaces).

The CPS 2017 Meeting will follow the biennial tradition of CPS Meetings, being an international gathering of scientists sharing interests in protein chemistry broadly defined, from synthetic methodology to applications in medicine and biomaterials. The meeting will provide an excellent networking platform for all participants and we particularly encourage students and post-docs to attend and benefit from the scientific environment.

Synthetic speech is part of modern everyday life. Artificial voices do not only occur in multifaceted technological uses, but they also feed back into researching the natural human voice. Moreover, artists, musicians and composers find a source of inspiration in the artificial sound of such voices. The symposium inquires both the richness of the human voice and the limits and surplus of its theoretical modelling and mechanical and digital imitation. We are specifically interested in modelling and synthesizing so-called "extended vocal techniques" - all sounds the human voice can produce, that exceed conventional singing and speaking. The symposium covers the history of the artificial voice, extended vocal techniques, aspects of theoretical modelling and technical realization, and the role of the artificial voice in contemporary music. Academics, scientists and artists come together to exchange ideas and insights in three days of presentations, meetings, workshops and a concert. With a group of international experts we place the artificial voice in a broad perspective of historical, technical, socio-cultural, artistic and musical investigation.

The 17th CDB Meeting-Towards Synthesis of Cells- ..

Synthesis is the process in which synthesis tools like design compiler or Synplify take RTL in Verilog or VHDL, target technology, and constrains as input and maps the RTL to target technology primitives. Synthesis tool, after mapping the RTL to gates, also do the minimal amount of timing analysis to see if the mapped design is meeting the timing requirements. (Important thing to note is, synthesis tools are not aware of wire delays, they only know of gate delays). After the synthesis there are a couple of things that are normally done before passing the netlist to backend (Place and Route)

The gatelevel netlist from the synthesis tool is taken and imported into place and route tool in Verilog netlist format. All the gates and flip-flops are placed; clock tree synthesis and reset is routed. After this each block is routed. The P&R tool output is a GDS file, used by foundry for fabricating the ASIC. Backend team normally dumps out SPEF (standard parasitic exchange format) /RSPF (reduced parasitic exchange format)/DSPF (detailed parasitic exchange format) from layout tools like ASTRO to the frontend team, who then use the read_parasitic command in tools like Prime Time to write out SDF (standard delay format) for gate level simulation purposes.

Nanocomposites: synthesis, structure, properties and …

Creating an artificial voice has been a preoccupation already for several centuries. The first mechanical models imitated parts of the human body that were most clearly involved in vocal production. Later models were based on theoretical principles for the speaking (and sometimes: singing) voice. Electroacoustic synthetic or re-synthesized (quasi-)vocal sounds have been used in contemporary music and art already for decades. Nowadays, artificial voices are abundant: such as in voice response systems (telephone), in navigation systems, as aid for the vocally or visually disabled, and as commercial singing synthesis computer programme (Yamaha's Vocaloid). The current success of artificial voices comes with a change of focus from synthesis by rules, based on a model of the voice, to the use of recorded voices that are analysed, cut into tiny fragments, manipulated and put together to form new utterances, facilitated by the enormous increase of computer data capacity and computing power.
